Student Health Insurance

IMPORTANT: To comply with state law (see below), all newly admitted and returning students who are registered for at least 75% of a full course load for the Annual 2020-2021 plan MUST go online to either waive out of or enroll in the annual insurance plan no later than the deadline date of September 25, 2020. The deadline date to waive out of or enroll in the spring insurance plan is not yet released.

The Salem State University Student Health Plan is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield and administered by University Health Plans. The premium for the annual 2020-2021 plan is $3,306 and the policy is in effect from August 1, 2020 through July 31, 2021. Please find detailed information about the plan, benefit information, information for previous Premium Assistance Mass Health members, and more on the University Health Plans Salem State University student health insurance page.

If you are a new or returning student who did not meet the insurance criteria in the fall term but have enrolled in at least 75% of your program's full-time course load for the spring term, you will be charged $1,935. The policy is in effect from January 1, 2021 through July 31, 2021.

Massachusetts state law requires that all students enrolled in at least 75% of their program's full-time course load at an institution of higher learning in Massachusetts must participate in a Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) or in a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. Massachusetts colleges and universities are required to sponsor a health plan for students who do not have health insurance. A charge is added to a student's account in the fall term based on criteria mentioned above.
