Massachusetts state law requires that all students enrolled in at least 75 percent of their program's full-time course load at an institution of higher learning in Massachusetts must participate in a Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) or in a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. Massachusetts colleges and universities are required to sponsor a health plan for students who do not have health insurance. A charge is added to a student's account in the fall term based on the criteria mentioned above.
