Welcome to Salem State!
We can't wait for you to start your Viking journey.
This page is meant to guide you from the end of orientation to the start of the new semester. There's a lot to remember as you start your college journey, and we're here to support you!
Have you made it official?
This page is for new students who have made their deposit and completed orientation. If you just received your acceptance letter, congratulations! Make sure you complete the steps outlined on the accepted students page to officially becoming a Salem State Viking.
Dates and Deadlines
Enroll/Waive Your Health Insurance
All students taking at least 75% of a full-time course load must have health insurance. You need to enroll in the school sponsored insurance plan (or waive out if you're already covered) between the date your bill is posted and September 29.
Settle Your Bill
Fall bills will post to your Navigator account in July and are due by the second Wednesday in August. Here's how to set up a payment plan and how to apply financial aid to your bill. Questions? Contact the Student Navigation Center.
Immunization Forms
Your immunization forms need to be submitted and approved via the health portal prior to moving in and/or attending class.

Getting Ready for the Semester
(First-year students only.) You'll receive a copy of this year's First Year Reading Experience book at orientation. You'll be discussing the book in small groups following Academic Convocation, so be sure to read it over the summer!
Each student is required to have a laptop. Read our help page for finding the best laptop for you.
You can purchase your commuter parking pass beginning in August through Navigator. Once you make your purchase, you'll receive a temporary parking pass by email to use while your decal is being shipped. Find out more about parking on campus.
You can reserve your textbooks at the bookstore prior to the start of class by visiting them online.
