Apply: Graduate Certificate in Bilingual Education

Please note: The Graduate Certificate in Bilingual Education program does not lead to an academic degree. The graduate certificate program is not eligible for financial aid. 

Required Application Materials 

• $50 non-refundable application fee 

• Official transcript from all institutions attended with a minimum final grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in your bachelor's degree 

  • If you attended an institution outside of the United States, a transcript evaluation from one of our approved agencies is required. 

• Two references 

• Statement of purpose 

• An initial/professional educator license, or 

  • a transcript documenting matriculation into an education preparation program leading to licensure. 

• A passing score on a world language test relevant to the language to be offered in partnership to English.

  • Acceptable tests: Any of the DESE-approved MTELs in a world language (Spanish MTEL, Chinese Mandarin MTEL, French MTEL, Italian MTEL, German MTEL, Portuguese MTEL, or Russian MTEL). 

• English Proficiency, if applicable for international applicants

Concurrent Enrollment 

Students currently enrolled in a Salem State graduate program should follow the concurrent enrollment process instead of using the graduate online application. The certificate in bilingual education program does not support international students in f or j status due to program modality and/or part-time status. Please contact graduate admissions to verify which programs are suitable.
