If you have a prior degree in physical education, sport and movement science or exercise science and you want to start a career as a physical education teacher, this is the path for you.

This program is designed for an experienced educator who holds an initial teaching license and wants to serve as a teacher of reading. This fully online program provides opportunities for participants to gain deep knowledge of literacy development PreK-12 and the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to implement evidence-based, culturally and linguistically sustaining practices aligned with literacy research. Participants will learn to navigate the tensions in the field of literacy to ensure effective and inclusive instruction for all students. Professional development design, collaboration, and coaching are also emphasized to prepare participants to become literacy leaders and advocates at the local and state levels.

For those looking to add expertise in working with children on the autism spectrum, we offer a graduate certificate in autism studies that can be embedded in a master’s program or stand alone.

The Graduate Certificate in Bilingual Education at Salem State is designed to meet the requirements for PreK through 12 teachers who wish to earn the DESE Bilingual Education Endorsement. The program provides a strong grounding in the research and practices to teach emerging bilingual students, including foundations of programming, language acquisition and biliteracy development, and the multicultural facets of teaching students and interacting with parents and the community.   

Today’s collaborative educational environment yields frequent opportunities for teachers to take on informal and formal leadership roles. To be effective, these positions of responsibility require a unique skill set. The Salem State University Graduate Certificate in Teacher Leadership is an engaging and efficient way of acquiring the framework of theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for success.
