Snow Closing Information
Updates during a snow emergency
When Salem State is closed due to inclement weather or another issue, campus updates are provided to the community on the homepage of this site. There you will find breaking news and such information as which dining services are open or where resident students may park their cars.

- Students: Log into Navigator. Select “Full Menu,” then “Personal Profile” and “Phone Numbers.” Next edit the “Mobile” phone information.
- Faculty and Staff Members: Log into Polaris. Select "Browse" and then “Emergency Alert Information” to add or edit the phone number(s) listed

Regardless of media reports, a delayed opening means classes and work begin at 10:30 am.
Every effort will be made to make the decision for weekday classes by 6 am and no later than 1 pm for evening classes (which begin at 4:30 pm). The university only announces delayed openings or campus closings–we do not inform the community that we are open for normal operations.
Please note: If a decision to cancel day classes is publicized, this does not mean evening classes are also canceled (evening classes begin at 4:30 pm). Please check local media, the university’s website or call 978.542.6000 after 1 pm for information regarding evening classes.
The decision to cancel Saturday classes will be made by 6 am, if possible.
When the university is closed, all evening and weekend activities are canceled.
Further information about the cancellation of events will be available on the university’s website or by calling the department sponsoring or running the event. It is NOT advised to rely on media outlets for this type of notice.
Please do not call university police to check for closings or delayed openings. Phones need to stay open for true emergencies. Thank you for your cooperation.
