The Center for Equity, Education, and Belonging is home to education, training, and professional development programs in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for Salem State faculty and staff. It supports curricular and community engagements that nurture our diverse student body and initiatives positioned to positively impact marginalized faculty and staff communities.

The center’s professional and pedagogical programs support our institutional values and capacity to attract, grow, and retain faculty, staff, and student talent. The center is led by the Faculty Fellow for Diversity and Inclusion in collaboration with the Center for Inclusive Excellence’s Director of Education.

JEDI Curricular Transformation

The Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) initiative combines course-by-course curricular transformation with the recognition of teacher-scholars and the development of a JEDI consultant group to bring Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion across the curriculum.

Building Inclusive Academic Communities (BIAC)

Through this inclusive pedagogy co-mentoring program, senior and junior faculty, graduate and undergraduate students build community as they examine their own social identities, share their understandings of what makes an inclusive classroom, develop knowledge of the theory and practice of inclusive pedagogy, and design teaching and learning practices that foster greater student engagement and academic achievement.
