Monday, October 5

Majors/Minors Fair - 11 am-12:30 pm

Join us for the Majors/Minors Fair! This is a great opportunity to explore minors to enhance your degree, or find out more information regarding majors if you would like to double major or are an Exploratory student! Stop by and you will have a chance at winning some prizes as well.

Reframing Aging - 11:30 am-12:45 pm

Alrie McNiff Daniels helps organizations shift the way they think and talk about aging and older adults. A certified Reframing Aging facilitator, she has more than 30 years’ experience promoting public health and healthier communities.

The Reframing Aging initiative is a national effort to advance a more accurate and complete story about aging. It challenges common narratives; emphasizes the wisdom and experience of older people; fosters more equitable, inclusive, and supportive communities; and promotes practices that make it possible for everyone to live meaningful lives. 

The Anxiety Puzzle: An Introduction to the Neurobiology of Anxiety - 4:30-6:30 pm

Anxiety disorders are among the most common presenting concerns across every corner of the helping profession, yet we lack common language and understanding for what's happening in the brain  when anxiety takes hold. This presentation will offer insight into the neurobiological foundation of anxiety designed explicitly for interprofessional audiences, bridging the conceptual gaps that too often keep disciplines working in parallel rather than in concert.  

Hazing Prevention Workshop - 6-8 pm

Join the Greek Council as they host the Hazing Prevention Network on campus to lead an impactful workshop on preventing hazing. This workshop is open to all students and will interactively engage participants in applying real-time hazing research about the predictors and outcomes of hazing to their campus experiences. You will work together to understand and identify the campus specific motivators for individual, organizational, and community participation in hazing. Guided by the strategies to prevent hazing shared by facilitators, participants will leave the workshop having prioritized strategies they plan to implement.

Voto y Voz: Your Voice and Vote Matter - 3-4:20 pm

Please join the Berry Institute of Politics and our HSI-MSI Initiatives for an important conversation about the role of voter and civic engagement in strengthening our democracy.  

 

Wednesday, October 7

Music for Dance with Asa Peters - 12:15-1:30 pm

In this workshop Asa will share stories and hands-on activities about the connections of music and dance within educational, social, and local Indigenous cultural spaces. The workshop will dig into the experience of musician-dancer collaboration both in improvised and composed situations while making connections to popular and folk music and dance. Asa is an educator and performer with experience in saxophone and percussion performance, electronic and Hip-Hop music production and performance, and dance accompaniment. He is also a researcher of ethnic studies and a practitioner of community archives with an M.S. from UMass Boston in Critical Ethnic and Community Studies.

Queer Convos Week 1 - 6-8 pm

Join the Center for Justice and Liberation (CJL) for our Queer Convos Series, in honor of SSU's Pride Month Celebration!

For Week 1, we will focus on the experience of queer students of color! We will create a space for students to connect and discuss the intersectionality between queer identity and racial/ethnic identity. We will explore the history and legacy of people of color in the Queer Liberation Movement and discuss ways that queer students of color show up as leaders!

Explore identity, history, and leadership at this powerful program, co-hosted by Dr. Javier Garcia-Perez, Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work.

Food will be provided.


Thursday, October 8

Empowered and Informed: Know Your Rights Student Session - 5-6 pm

Learn your rights, know your options, and feel more prepared. Join us for a welcoming conversation about navigating everyday situations at home, while driving, in public, and on campus. We’ll also share resources for you and your family, ways to connect with immigrant-serving organizations, and tools to help you advocate for yourself and your community.

While this workshop will be hosted virtually over Zoom, you are invited to have dinner and watch the workshop together in the CJL Lounge (ECC 202).

Super Smash Bros Tournament - 5-8 pm

Super Smash Bros. is a classic Nintendo game that pits two players against each other in the arena! Whether you are beginner or an expert, try your luck in our Smash Bros. tournament. No registration is required. Make sure to check in by 5 pm to hold your spot in the tournament!

Chamber Ensembles from the University Band and Chamber Orchestra - 7:30-9 pm

Members of the University Band and the Chamber Orchestra present an evening of chamber music and small ensemble music. The ensembles on this concert range from a flute trio, to a brass quintet, to small string and woodwind ensembles. 

The literature is as diverse as the instrumental configurations including works by Mozart, Dvorak, Beethoven and Alan Menken. 

Admission to this concert is free. Goodwill offerings at the door are welcome to support the work of the department.


Friday, October 9

Fall 2026 Leadership Institute 

The Leadership Institute offers student leaders a structured and engaging environment to explore the dynamics of leadership through interactive seminars and reflection. Using the Social Change Model, students examine their own leadership styles while building practical skills they can apply both on campus and beyond.
