With the first month of classes behind us and spooky season in full swing, campus life is buzzing! We’re hitting our stride, and there’s plenty going on this week that you won’t want to miss.
Weeklong Events:
Student Success Series Workshops I Zoom
Are you a student interested in building skills and enhancing strategies related to academic success? Do you need a little bit of guidance and support around a particular academic success topic? Attend a Student Success Series Workshop (via Zoom) happening all this week at a variety of times.
Tuesday, October 14
Test Your Registration Knowledge I 11 am-1 pm
Join the Student Navigation Center for our pre-registration tabling events and test your knowledge! We will be popping up around campus with games, fun prizes, tips and tricks to help you make sure you are all set for registration. Spring 2026 registration begins the week of November 3.
Financial Feud I 11:30 am-1:30 pm
Students answer financial questions to win fun prizes! Students will also receive information about the upcoming early registration period.
Know Your Rights - Immigration Policy Updates I 4:30-6 pm
Inclusive Excellence, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition and the Welcome Immigrant Network (WIN), invites you to join us on Zoom for virtual session focused on immigrant rights and current immigration policy updates.
Geoguesser Tournement I 5-6 pm
GeoGuessr is the ultimate geography-based challenge: you’ll be dropped into a random location on Google Street View—anywhere on Earth—and must use visual clues like road signs, landscapes, and even vegetation to guess where you are. The closer your pin is to the real location, the more points you score!

Exploratory Lunch and Learn I 12:30-1:30 pm
Not sure what to major in yet? Join us for an Exploratory Lunch and Learn—an informal, welcoming space to explore your options over a free lunch. Each session features a different set of majors, bringing together faculty, staff, and even alumni to share their experiences, answer your questions, and help you get a clearer picture of what studying in that field is really like.
Wheelchair Basketball Experience with Rolling Celtics. I 4:30-7:30 pm
This hands-on event offers students from multiple disciplines the opportunity to learn about adaptive sports, engage with professional athletes, and experience wheelchair basketball firsthand while fostering interprofessional collaboration and understanding.
The English Society/Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society invite students, faculty, and the university community to our annual "Poe in the Dark" event, a reading of spooky stories and poetry in celebration of this macabre author and the Halloween season. Bring your favorite scary stories and poems, or your own creations, and we'll also have some classics by Poe on hand to read.
Civic Dinner: Healthcare Access and Affordability I 6-8 pm
Please join us for an evening of food, networking, and learning from local advocates invested in advocating for healthcare access and affordability. Leaders will share information about their role in the field, provide insight on resources and relevant legislation, and share their current advocacy efforts. They will also provide feedback on how students can be effective advocates for this important social issue.
Campus Life and Recreation invites you to life-size Board Game Night! We are bringing your favorite classic games to the Gassett Fitness Center and allowing you to play them like never before!
Thursday, October 16
Four Decades of Covering the Celtics – Steve Bulpett I 12:15-1:30 pm
Steve Bulpett, a veteran sports reporter who has covered the Boston Celtics and the NBA since 1985, will speak at Salem State University. Bulpett will discuss his sports journalism career and will offer career advice to students. His talk, Four Decades of Covering the Celtics and the NBA will take place in the Junior Career Seminar class of Peggy Dillion, adjunct professor and professor emerita of media and communications.
The talk is free and open to all.

Hispanic Heritage Month Dinner I 5-7 pm
Join us as we celebrate the conclusion of Hispanic Heritage Month with our annual Hispanic Heritage Month Dinner! Enjoy traditional food, music, and discussion throughout the night!
Music Faculty Recital I 7:30-9 pm
Salem State music faculty share their talents in a recital ranging in styles, genres and instrumentation. Performers include: Jayson Branton, Nathaniel Braddock, Jean Danton, Max Ignas, Steve Lacey, Cynthia Napierkowski, Robb Taylor and Eileen Yarrison.
Admission is free. Goodwill offerings at the door are welcome.
