New First Year Students Orientation 

Your class schedule is only obtained by successfully completing a New Student Orientation session before you can register for classes. The final remaining New Student Orientation sessions are August 2026.  

New Transfer Students 

If you are a transfer student admitted or who submitted an enrollment deposit by Friday, August 21 you will be signed up for an advising appointment with their academic department to choose their fall classes. Please check your Salem State email for information on your advising appointment.   

If you are a transfer student admitted or deposited after Friday; August 21^st you will attend an Academic Advising Drop-In Session in order to register for classes. 

Important Note

We cannot guarantee students who are admitted late will be able to register for all of their required courses or for a full-time schedule. 
 
Please note that students must be registered with at least 6 credits to be eligible for financial aid. For full-time financial aid awards, students must be registered with at least 12 credits.  

Continuing Education Students 

Continuing education students are students taking majority online or evening courses in one of the 12 majors listed in undergraduate degrees.

If you are a Continuing Education student, please make an appointment with Samantha Cosentino, the Student Success Specialist with the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, to register for classes.  

Continuing education, students do not need to attend orientation or submit a deposit.

• How to view/adjust my financial aid award  

Salem State University offers many ways for students and families to pay for their education. Most people begin by applying for financial aid and confirming their award letter. If financial aid does not cover the entire cost of attending, the university has other options to help students pay their bill.  

One aspect of a student’s bill is potentially waivable is the school sponsored health insurance. If students have healthcare coverage, they can waive out of the school sponsored health insurance and save $2,756.  

Ways to pay your bill: 

• Enroll in an interest-free monthly payment plan through TouchNet, (plan enrollment is a $40 non-refundable fee). Review the "How to set-up a Payment Plan" guide. Enrollment for fall plans is mid-July, spring plan is mid-December and summer plans is mid-May.
• Private student loans also help pay for college. These loans are available through banks, credit unions, online lenders and other financial institutions. Begin your private loan search by visiting our resource list.
• PLUS loans are federal loans that parents of dependent undergraduate students can use to help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid. Once your student has filled out a FAFSA, parents can apply for a PLUS loan at Studentaid.gov. 

All students should make themselves familiar with the university’s refund policy.

You must be in full-time status with at least 12 credits per semester to live on campus.

Housing Application Process

• Pay your $300 housing deposit in Navigator:
  • Log into Navigator and select "Financial Account", then "Make a Housing eDeposit", then "Fall 2026", then "Housing Deposit CC Fall" OR "Housing Deposit eCheck Fall"
  • Notify housing@salemstate.edu that you've made your housing deposit
• Complete your housing application in the housing portal with the same username and password as your Navigator Account. Please ensure you are already logged into your Salem State email and utilize the SALEMSTATE-Student SSO Login button. 

• For applicants applying after June 19, students will deposit and submit a housing application. Once received, Residence Life will assign the student to a room and post the information to the student’s housing portal.  

• Once assigned, students can view their room/roommate details in the Housing Portal.

• Move-in information will be emailed to the student via Salem State University email account starting in August. 

  • You can save the dates and view more information here.

  • If you have an assignment prior to move the move-in weekend, you would be able to select a move-in time in your housing portal.  

  • If you apply for housing during Move-In Weekend, your housing assignment will be made after the scheduled move-in dates have passed. Once your assignment has been finalized, Residence Life will contact you with additional information and instructions regarding your move-in. 

• All resident students must maintain the minimum meal plan as required by the residence hall assigned.

• Commuter students are welcome to purchase a meal plan.
