Chemistry and physics at Salem State University educates chemists who are ready for employment or graduate school. We offer chemistry majors programs in various tracks, including a biochemistry concentration and a BS degree approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Students can perform undergraduate research with our faculty. The department also operates the Collins Observatory which has open public viewings on clear Monday nights. Our graduates have gone on to careers at General Electric, Osram Sylvania, Genetics Institute, and Waters Corporation. Others are working on graduate degrees at Penn State, USC, Brandeis, Brown, Tufts, and RPI. Other graduates are in medical school, veterinary school, and physician’s assistant programs.

  • Licensure Only, Secondary Science

    Licensure
    Graduate

    The licensure only secondary science graduate program prepares students who have already completed their bachelor's degree in a STEM field for teaching careers in secondary science. New teachers in STEM fields are in critical demand across the state. The program offers a pathway to initial licensure in a range of secondary science/STEM areas, including biology (grade 8-12), chemistry (grade 8-12), earth science (grade 8-12), general science (grade 5 – 8), and mathematics/science (grade 5-8).
