Student Success Series Workshops

Are you a student interested in building skills and enhancing strategies related to academic success? Do you need a little bit of guidance and support around a particular academic success topic? Attend a Student Success Series Workshop (via Zoom) happening all this week at a variety of times.

Monday, March 30

Safiya Tarbell and Kallyn Lavallee/Honors in Art -10 am-4 pm

Seniors Safiya Tarbell and Kallyn Lavallee present an Honors in Art Exhibition, March 30-April 17 | Winfisky Gallery. 

Faculty Reading - 11 am-12:30 pm

This annual event features the Salem State writing faculty who are a very prolific group. Stop by to hear their recently published work and work in progress. 

Local Principal and Triple Viking Hosted as Ed. Leadership Speaker - 5-6:30 pm

Our CAGS in Ed. Leadership graduate program and Center for Ed. Leadership will be hosting Principal Jessica Patti, a Salem State “Triple Viking”. The session will focus on the evolution of SEL work in schools and highlight where we stand today. This session will go beyond “check-the-box” compliance to exploring the mindsets and frameworks for embedding emotional intelligence into the fabric of school leadership. Participants will leave with practical insights and high-impact practices for fostering a sustainable culture of genuine connection and resilience.

Tuesday, March 31

Using Our Voices Through Art - 3-4:30 pm

Join us to reflect, make art, and build community together! 

Grounded in readings from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we’ll explore the power of nonviolence as a philosophy and consider how art can serve as a form of nonviolent resistance. Participants will then create their own pieces inspired by the conversation, including posters, collages, zines, and other media.

Money Matters | Cooking Demo and Taste Test - 3:30-4:30 pm

The chef will teach participants how to prepare Chicken Fried Rice and Chocolate Lava Cakes in the common space kitchen in Bowditch Hall, using simple budget-friendly ingredients. Students can find most of the ingredients on campus at our mobile food pantry. Recipe cards and taste tests will be available at the demonstration. Stop by and learn how to make a new affordable meal and dessert!

Commencement 101 - 6-7 pm

Salem State graduates, families and friends! Academic Affairs and Alumni Affairs invite you to a presentation about celebrating the Class of 2026! Find out about commencement tickets, Graduation Portraits, and everything that graduates and guests need to know as the countdown to cap and gown nears!

Yoga Class - 7-8 pm

In honor of Women’s History Month, join the Center for Justice and Liberation for a FREE yoga class, with a focus on well-being and mindfulness for women and femmes! All students are welcome! Light snacks, water, and yoga mats will be provided. Please register in advance!

The Choir of New College Oxford - 7:30-9 pm

We are thrilled to welcome the Choir of New College Oxford to the Salem State Recital Hall in March. This concert is presented as part of Salem's quadricentennial celebration.This concert has been generously sponsored by Christopher S. Hyland in memory of his parents Samuel Francis Hyland (1911-1989) and Patricia Ellen Hyland (1914-1986).

Admission to this concert is free. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged.

Friday, April 3

SGS Scholar's Toolkit: Resilience in Practice - 12-1 pm

The session will also address common challenges faced by professionals across fields, including burnout, compassion fatigue, and moral injury, and how these experiences can affect both personal well-being and professional sustainability.

Participants will leave with practical strategies for strengthening their own resilience as they transition into professional careers, leadership roles, or entrepreneurial ventures.
