Undergraduate Teacher Prep Programs

Our social justice-oriented combined bachelor's and master's 4+1 elementary with special education program is designed to send expertly prepared, experienced, equity-minded teachers into our public school classrooms. Within general education, students will be prepared to teach children in grades 1-6, working with children between the ages of six and twelve. Within special education, students will be prepared to teach children in preschool through eighth grade, working with children between the ages of three and fourteen.

Our program combines intensive, early experiences in our partner schools with rigorous academic expectations.

If you see yourself as a middle or high school mathematics teacher, the dual degree 4+1 program is the way to get there. Major in mathematics and minor in education to reach your teaching goals.

If you see yourself as a physical education teacher, the dual degree 4+1 program is the way to get there. Major in sports and movement science and minor in education to reach your teaching goals.

This program is for students interested in becoming early childhood (preschool to second grade) or elementary (first through sixth grade) teachers who want flexibility in their undergraduate education.

Students in this program major in education and minor in any area they choose. Their education major includes coursework that sets them up for success in a graduate licensure program, emphasizing equity in education and deep curricular knowledge.

This program prepares students for careers as middle or high school English teachers. The combined BA/MEd in English and secondary education gives students the opportunity to pursue a BA in English with a second major in secondary education and a master's of education with initial licensure in five years. Competitive fellowships for the master's year offer students the opportunity to have their tuition and fees for their fifth year covered by a local school district.

Please note that the BA/MEd program has a special admissions process.

If you see yourself as a Spanish teacher at any level K-12, the combined degree 4+1 program is the way to get there. Start your studies in the bachelor of arts in World Languages and Cultures (Spanish concentration) and talk to your advisor about applying to the combined BA/M.Ed. program at the end of your freshman or start of your sophomore year. You will graduate with an endorsement  for a Massachusetts teacher’s license, a master’s degree, and ample experience teaching Spanish as a second language, ready to fill the critical need for Spanish teachers in our state!
