What made you choose Salem State, and what is one thing a prospective student should know about our campus community?
I chose Salem State because it felt like a warm and welcoming community, and I loved that Salem is such a walkable city. One thing prospective students should know is that once you find your place here, it truly becomes a second home.
Once you got to campus, what made you say, "This is the place for me?"
Once I got to campus and started getting involved, I met so many people and quickly felt comfortable and at home. That sense of connection is what made me realize Salem State was the right place for me.
What made you choose your major? What about your area of study ignites your passion?
I wasn't sure what I wanted to study when I first arrived, but I always knew I wanted to help people. After exploring different classes, I found social work, and it immediately clicked. Being able to give back to the community and support others is what drives my passion.
Do you live on campus or commute? If you live on campus, what have you enjoyed most about your experience? If you commute, how have you stayed engaged with the campus community?
I lived on campus for all four years, including a few summers. I loved being in the residence halls and feeling constantly connected to the Salem State community. There was always something to do or someone to connect with, whether at the Gassett Fitness Center or at the front desk.
How have you grown as a person during your college experience?
I've grown tremendously during my time at Salem State. When I first arrived, I wasn't very independent and felt unsure of myself. As I got involved, built relationships and stepped into leadership roles, I gained confidence and developed a strong sense of independence.
Can you describe a challenge that you overcame at Salem State?
I graduated a semester later than planned, which initially felt like a setback. However, the Salem State community supported me both emotionally and academically, helping me stay on track and ultimately succeed.
Could you discuss the relationships you've developed with faculty members and how these relationships have influenced your learning and personal growth?
Through my involvement on campus, I built strong relationships with many faculty members who became mentors and a key support system. Their guidance encouraged me to grow as a leader and motivated me to continue pushing myself.
Can you describe the educational value and affordability you've experienced at Salem State University? How has the university supported your academic journey regarding quality and accessibility?
Affordability was a major factor in my decision, and the quality of education and community made it an even better value. As a student who used services from the Center for Accessible Academic Resources (CAAR), I found the support incredibly helpful and essential to my success.
Salem State emphasizes hands-on learning experiences. Can you share any memorable experiences where you've applied classroom knowledge in real-world settings or through projects?
Through my internship, I was able to apply both my leadership skills and social work knowledge in a real-world setting, which helped prepare me for my future career.
What are your post-graduation plans, and how do you believe your time at Salem State has equipped you for success in pursuing these plans?
After graduation, I plan to work before attending graduate school. Career services has helped me prepare my resume and take the next steps, and the education and experiences I've gained at Salem State have fully prepared me for what's ahead.
