SSU Early College Promise Year Student Featured in the Boston Globe

SSU Early College Promise Year student Destiny Egbuta is featured in a Boston Globe op-ed on scaling early college programs in Massachusetts.

 

New Publication on the Challenges of Diversifying Teaching

Assistant Professor James Noonan and his research collaborators had their article, “Mixed Messages and Diversity Management: Misalignment between District Intention and Action Aimed at Hiring Teachers of Color,” published in the American Journal of Education.

 

Rebecca Hains (MCO) presents research at University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France

Last week, Professor Rebecca Hains (MCO) presented her research on girl culture, media, and toy marketing at University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France, as an invited panelist on “Pink and Black: Princesses and Gothic Horror — a three-voice conference.” The presentation was part of her work as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Poland, and partially supported by a "Excellence Initiative – Research University" grant from the Jagiellonian University, her host institution in Krakow, Poland.

 

Dr. Nate Bryant honored by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Caucus

Vice President of Student Success Nate Bryant, EdD was honored at the 2024 Black Excellence on the Hill event, hosted by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Caucus. He was nominated by State Representative Manny Cruz. This event honors the Black trailblazers, leaders and changemakers across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The 2024 Black Excellence on the Hill event highlighted the heritage and work of those belonging to the Black diaspora. Dr. Bryant was recognized among 70 other Black leaders in Massachusetts, and he was honored with an official citation from the Massachusetts Black and Latino Caucus.

 

New Publication: Professor Sara Mana

Sara Mana (GLS) and her research collaborators recently had their article "Emplacement and flow dynamics in a small volcanic dyke swarm: The example of Mount Calanna (Etna, Italy)" published by the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research.

 

Professor Rebecca Hains (MCO) Shares Research at Hellenic American University, Athens

Professor Rebecca Hains shared her research on the Salem Witch Trials, Witchcraft, and Female Empowerment in Popular Culture at the Hellenic University in Athens on March 15, as part of her Fulbright grant activities.

 

Publication: Raymond Gonzalez

Raymond Gonzalez (music and dance) recently had his sixth book published by Mel Bay Music. His latest book, "Fingerstyle Guitar Tunes - Early Music Gems," features arrangements of early music from Medieval and Renaissance Europe and also includes access to online audio of every tune, recorded by the author.

 

Professor Gretchen Sinnett's Exhibition Review Published

Professor Gretchen Sinnett's review of the "Fashioned by Sargent" exhibition and catalogue at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston was published in the Spring 2024 issue of "Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide."

 

Nancy Schultz, Professor Emeritus, Publishes Article in American Heritage Magazine

The Spring issue of American Heritage magazine is focused on the American Revolution and highlights retired English professor Nancy Schultz's efforts to preserve the General Glover house in Swampscott, threatened with demolition. Her article is "Home of John Glover Threatened with Demolition" and there is an editorial by Ed Grosvenor on the importance of saving this historic house.
