It’s finals season, baby, and don’t we all know it!! Here are some tips from your pals in Counseling for staying healthy and sane during crunch time.
1. Make a plan: Establish a study schedule that includes regular breaks. Breaks are absolutely
critical to keep you motivated, and having a schedule can reduce stress by limiting the number of decisions you have to make.
2. Prioritize Sleep: 7-9 hours is the magic number! A full night’s sleep is crucial to focus, energy, information retention, and having a good time here on earth.
3. Eat Nutritious Meals: We know, that 2nd Celsius of the day is soooooo tempting, and you’re not even hungry after you drink it! But your brain needs real, healthy food to keep you at your best. Protein, fresh veg, and healthy fats will keep you full and focused, and avoiding excess caffeine will help reduce anxiety and overwhelm.
4. Move: We’re not even talking like a “workout,” although that’s cool too if you’re into it. A 20-minute walk, a 10-minute stretch session, or a 15-minute dorm dance break can reduce stress and increase your energy levels.
5. Practice Mindfulness: Contrary to popular belief, mindfulness does not mean silencing your mind! (As if we ever could!) It just means paying attention to one thing at a time, and it can be a HUGE stress reliever. You can find self-guided mindfulness resources for FREE just sign in with your SSU login on Uwill.
6. Connect with Others: Reach out to friends, family, or Counseling and Health Services for
support. Talking things out can help you feel less isolated and more motivated!
