What made you choose Salem State?
I chose Salem State for its tight-knit community. The idea of being in a classroom with more than 30 students freaked me out, and when I learned how small the classes were at Salem State, I immediately felt relaxed. Another reason I chose Salem State is its walkability. I absolutely love being able to go on a quick walk to class. I did not like the idea of having to take public transportation to classes every single day. One of the biggest reasons why I came here originally was for hockey. I got recruited to play hockey for the school, and having that confirmation that a community wanted me made me feel at home and immediately want to start my college experience.

What are three words you would use to describe the Viking community? Why?
Inclusive, supportive and diverse. When I came to Salem State, I wanted to make sure I was attending a college where I would feel safe and welcome, and this school immediately proved to me that it could show me what true inclusiveness means. This community is extremely supportive. You will never feel unsupported because the Viking community will always have your back. I value support very strongly, and feeling supported has a real impact on my well-being.

What is one thing you think a prospective student should know about Salem State?
Get involved in any way. This school is a big commuter school, so weekends are a lot quieter. If you are bored at home or in your dorm, go to an event and bond with other students. It is worth it.

What have you done at Salem State that you are most proud of?
Last semester, fall 2025, I ended the semester with the best GPA and grades I have had while at Salem State. I ended the semester with all As, a 3.88 GPA and made the dean’s list.

How would you describe the professors at Salem State?
I would describe them as extremely helpful and supportive. Every professor at Salem State wants to help students be successful during their time here.

What has been your favorite class to take?
My favorite class has been Forensic Geology. I really enjoyed this class because it was well-organized and entertaining. Although the course was not easy, my professor, Gavin Gleasman, made the class easier for me by providing a student helper, well-organized PowerPoints, and general support with things I was not 100 percent sure about.

What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the admissions office. I love my job, and I absolutely love helping prospective students find a perfect place they can call home for the next four years. Everyone at admissions is so welcoming and kind. When I first applied, I was nervous about joining the team because I was not sure how I would do, but once I got all the support from everyone on the team, I instantly fell in love with the culture at admissions.

What is your favorite memory at Salem State?
My favorite memory at Salem State has been connecting with other students, especially since I got hired for admissions. Getting a job on campus helped me come out of my shell and become the person I am today. I did start working for orientation before admissions but being able to have a job that felt more part-time and not completely seasonal truly helped me become more confident in myself.

Do you live in a residence hall or commute? What has been your favorite part about living on campus or commuting?
I am a commuter, but I did live on campus for my first year here at Salem State. My favorite part about commuting is having time to reset and recharge outside of campus. I started living off campus my sophomore year and chose to live with two fellow hockey teammates, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made.

How do you feel Salem State has helped you get career-ready?
Salem State has helped me get ready for future careers a lot. The Career Services office is such a great place, and they have helped me find potential internships. I also really like getting emails about different criminal justice internship opportunities. It helps me find internships that might not be listed on Handshake, which is super beneficial because I like seeing what internship opportunities are out there beyond Handshake.
