What made you choose Salem State?
I chose Salem State because I love the area it’s in, and of course, it’s cost-friendly while also having great resources and programs.

What are three words you would use to describe the Viking community? Why?
Supportive, friendly and full of opportunity. I’ve found that in my experience, whenever I need help, I can find it. Whether that's from a professor, an office, or someone I work with, I feel like I have a strong support system. Going along with that, anyone I’ve met in those spaces has been very kind. Because of the support and friendliness, I feel like it has given me many opportunities to step out of my comfort zone and be successful.

What is one thing you think a prospective student should know about Salem State?
The biggest advice I always give prospective students is to take advantage of the resources available. Salem State has so many resources that many students don’t even know about. Whatever happens, there’s always someone somewhere who can help you. Never be afraid to ask for help.

What have you done at Salem State that you are most proud of?
One thing I’ve accomplished is to be successful even during hard times. I’ve had some personal struggles during my time here, and I was still able to maintain good grades, make the dean’s list and stay involved in things at school, like admissions and Greek life.

How would you describe the professors at Salem State?
Professors at Salem State, in my opinion, have been very good. Of course, every professor has different ways of teaching, and it may not align with every student’s way of learning, but in my experience, professors have taken that into consideration and helped students in any way possible. My professors have been very accommodating, kind, intelligent and fun.

What has been your favorite class to take?
I don’t have a specific favorite class, but I would say any class I’ve taken with Professor O’Leary, Dr. Dillon, or Professor Barnett in the media and communication department has been a pleasure. They are all excellent and kind professors whom I’ve looked forward to having class with every semester.

What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is Starbucks. As someone who has a lot of classes in Bertolon, it’s a great place to go and sit between classes, grab a drink and food and work on some homework. It’s great because a lot of events happen there, so you could stumble upon something fun even when you’re not expecting it.

What is your favorite memory at Salem State?
My favorite memory at Salem State is from Greek Week: during a kickball game, Dean Newton walked by and joined in cheering on the teams. It was so funny, and it was great to see the dean's support.

Do you live in a residence hall or commute? What has been your favorite part about living on campus or commuting?
I live on campus. I’ve lived in Marsh, Forten and Atlantic halls. My favorite part about living on campus is being so close to class and my friends. It’s a learning experience, figuring out how to live on your own and with roommates for the first time, but I’ve made good friends through living on campus and have had lots of fun.

How do you feel Salem State has helped you get career-ready?
Salem State has helped me get career-ready through resources like the Career Services office, the Center for Academic Excellence, and advisors who are ready to help you. I’ve found that all the on-campus job opportunities have been helpful as well, as you can gain experience and build connections.
