What made you choose Salem State?
I chose Salem State because it was an affordable option and very close to my house, which makes it easier for me to balance school with my personal responsibilities. It was also recommended by many of my high school teachers, whose guidance I trust and value. In addition, Salem State’s business program, ranked in the top 5 percent, stood out to me because it reassured me that I would receive a strong, high-quality education in a field that aligns with my career goals. Knowing that I could attend a respected business program while staying close to home and managing costs made Salem State the right choice for me.
What are three words you would use to describe the Viking community? Why?
Creative, fun and balanced. The community encourages creativity by supporting students’ ideas, interests and individuality, both inside and outside the classroom. It is also a fun environment, with a variety of events, clubs and activities that help students connect and enjoy their college experience. At the same time, the Viking community is balanced, promoting a healthy mix of academic responsibility and social life, which allows students to stay focused on their goals while still enjoying their time at Salem State.
What is one thing you think a prospective student should know about Salem State?
One thing I think a prospective student should know about Salem State is that it is a very supportive environment, no matter what path you choose to pursue. The faculty, staff, and campus community encourage students to explore their interests and take initiative, making it easier to step outside their comfort zone. Because of this support, students are increasingly motivated to challenge themselves, push their limits, and truly see how far they can go both academically and personally.
What have you done at Salem State that you are most proud of?
I am most proud of pushing myself to step outside my comfort zone and taking advantage of the supportive environment at Salem State.
How would you describe the professors at Salem State?
The professors at Salem State are not what you might expect. They are highly approachable and take the time to build genuine, meaningful connections with their students, making it easy to feel comfortable asking questions or seeking guidance. Many professors go beyond their role as instructors by sharing real-world experiences, offering career advice and providing mentorship that extends outside the classroom. Because of this, students can learn not only academic material but also valuable life skills such as professionalism, confidence, and critical thinking. Their consistent support and encouragement help students grow both personally and intellectually, becoming well-rounded, motivated individuals prepared for success beyond college.
What has been your favorite class to take?
My favorite class to take has been calculus because it challenges me to think critically and approach problems in a structured, logical way. The course has helped me strengthen my problem-solving skills while deepening my understanding of mathematical concepts that apply to many real-world situations.
What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the Math Learning Center because it provides an environment where learning truly thrives. You are constantly surrounded by knowledgeable, supportive people who are always willing to help, making challenging material easier to understand. Being in a space filled with motivated, intelligent students encourages you to push yourself academically and elevates your own learning when you are surrounded by people striving to improve and succeed.
What is your favorite memory at Salem State?
My favorite memory at Salem State is from my first semester, when I first arrived on campus and attended a philosophy class. In that class, I met many great people and was introduced to a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds. It was one of the first moments where I truly realized how diverse college classrooms can be, with students coming from different places, cultures and experiences from all over the world. That experience helped me feel more connected to the campus community and opened my mind to new ways of thinking, making it a memorable and meaningful start to my time at Salem State.
Do you live in a residence hall or commute? What has been your favorite part about living on campus or commuting?
I commute to campus, and my favorite part about commuting is being able to go home after a challenging class. Returning to my familiar environment helps me relax, refocus and work on my homework more comfortably. Being in a space where I feel at ease allows me to process what I learned in class and stay productive, making it much easier to balance schoolwork and my personal life.
How do you feel Salem State has helped you get career-ready?
Salem State has helped me become career-ready by giving me opportunities to meet and connect with professionals who are already working in the field I hope to pursue. Through classes, networking events and guidance from faculty, I have been able to learn directly from people with real-world experience. These interactions have helped me better understand my career path, set clear goals and feel more confident about entering the professional world after graduation.
