Status message

Please note that this event has already occurred.

Salem State's Earth Day celebration opens Monday April 8th and runs through Friday April 12th. The theme is "Climate Crisis: Actions for a Just and Livable World." Join us on Monday the 8th from 11:00 - 12:15 for the Research Poster Competition in the Ellison Campus Center Veterans Hall. This is the only undergraduate, juried, research competition at Salem State.  Join us during the judging as the student participants will be standing next to their posters and will be happy to explain their research and answer any questions.

Also on Monday April 8th:

1. Minigolf on North Campus Quad - April 8 – 19th

Play the minigolf holes that Art + Design department students have created on the North Campus Quad near the mural. Each one has a different environmental theme. Golf clubs are available from the Library Help Desk.

2. Evolution, Ethics, and Engineering Wild Mice to Stop Lyme Disease

9:25-10:40 am, ECC Veterans Hall.  Kevin Esvelt, Associate Professor and Director of the Sculpting Evolution group, MIT.

"When and how should we consider editing wild organisms, and how can communities guide research intended to change our shared environment? The Mice Against Ticks project, which aims to prevent Lyme disease by editing white-footed mice so they can't infect ticks, is trying to find out."

Sponsored by the Salem State Biology Department, Earth Days and the College of Arts and Sciences
