Salem State University no longer requires standardized tests scores (SAT/ACT) as part of our admission requirements.*
As part of a growing national movement, eliminating standardized tests from admission requirements allows Salem State to attract more students who are academically qualified based on their high school course selection and GPA, but perhaps did not score well on the SAT/ACT.
By eliminating test score requirements, we will focus our admission decisions on a student’s academic work and grade point average, which research has shown are better predictors for academic success.
*Please note: Nursing applicants must submit test scores.
Test Optional Guidelines

- Applicants with a GPA below 2.5 must submit a letter of reference from a teacher or high school guidance counselor
- Applicants who are homeschooled must submit test scores
- Applicants who submit transcripts with narratives and not grades must submit test scores
