Program Features

• Tailored for students, career changers and education professionals: The program is designed for people new to the field of education and for people who have previously worked in school settings who are seeking an initial license in physical education.

• Flexible pacing options: This program can be completed in just over 2 years full-time or 3 to 6 years part-time. Our courses are offered in the evening, starting at 4:30 pm, and include several online and hybrid courses. We provide the individual attention you need to support your professional growth.

• Faculty: Our faculty have a variety of experiences in the field and are active scholars and researchers in areas such as learning and teaching styles, assessment, constructivist teaching strategies, and adapted physical education. Our faculty hold doctorate degrees in the field and are fully committed to the discipline and teaching of physical education.

• Exciting 300-hour practicum: We have strong partnerships with more than 50 area schools throughout Greater Boston and the North Shore, offering excellent experiential learning opportunities for those seeking placement. Educators already working in the classroom may be able to complete their practicum at their place of employment.

• Culturally sustaining practices: Our teacher candidates are trained to create equitable learning environments in public schools. They learn how to design and implement culturally responsive lessons, manage classrooms of diverse learners, respond to the needs of all students and increase equitable access to learning for all students. Our dedicated faculty are committed to promoting social justice and equitable access to learning for all students.

• Graduate assistantships: Opportunities to apply for graduate assistantships, grants and scholarships.

Curriculum 

Our robust 36.5-39.5 credit curriculum gives students the skills and confidence to begin teaching during their first pre-practicum experience.

Licensure Opportunities* 

After completing student teaching, students are endorsed for their initial license in elementary or secondary physical education. Students can independently apply for professional licensure once they have completed the MAT and have three years of teaching experience under their initial license.
