Two-hundred Students to Volunteer for Third Annual First Year Day of Service

On Friday, August 31, 200 students, along with 125 student leaders, staff, alumni, and faculty, will fan out across the surrounding community for the third annual Moving Forward, Giving Back: Salem State University’s First Year Day of Service (MFGB).

MFGB is organized by Salem State University’s Center for Civic Engagement and its First Year Experience Office. About 30 community partners will welcome students for volunteer projects that include painting and building, preparing meals for shelters, registering people to vote, helping public schools prepare for the first day of school, and working on community gardens. The initiative is designed for students to become engaged with the greater Salem community, make connections with new classmates and the community, and create lasting commitment to civic engagement and social responsibility.

In addition to Salem State’s Center for Civic Engagement and its First Year Experience office, St. Jeans Credit Union, and the Rotary Club of Salem are sponsors of the event.
