Meier Hall Addition
The contractor is prepared to mobilize the Meier Hall site next week. This will begin with tree and shrub removal within the site's footprint and the installation of jersey barriers and fencing as pictured on page 35 of the contractor's Community Meeting Presentation from March 24, 2025.
Following site mobilization, the contractor will begin preparations for the blasting of the building's foundation. Blasting is anticipated to begin in early August.
The contractor anticipates blasting to occur one to two times per day between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. A police detail will halt traffic near the site on Lafayette Street at the time of each blast, which will be similar to the duration of a traffic light. All blasting operations will be conducted during daylight hours, and no explosives will be stored at the construction site overnight. The site will be well marked with highly visible signs that detail the whistle warning sequence that will be sounded prior to the commencement of each blast. The whistle warning sequence is as follows:
- Three Long Audible Horn Signals – five minutes until blast
- Two Short Audible Horn Signals – one minute to blast
- Blast occurs
- One Long Audible Horn Signal – All clear
The contractor is still setting up a blasting notification list, where interested parties can receive a phone call, text message or email one hour prior to each blast. If you would like to be placed on the notification list, call their office 508.603.5220. Learn more about the Meier Hall Addition.
