SMS Students Leading Events for Fun, Health & Wellness

Join our students in their drive to improve our community's health & wellness

Students in SMS 271 Recreation Program & Event Planning are running a number of events in the hopes of furthering our personal and collective health & wellness at SSU. Among these opportunities are:

SSU Walkaholics

Come get active with Salem State Students! Salem State Walkaholics is a four week walking club coordinated by Salem State students. The club promotes community and physical activity through a four week program meeting once a week for four weeks.

Each Wednesday, April 19-May 10, we will meet at a variety of locations near Salem State University and will warm up, walk, and cool down as a group.

Program Schedule:

  • April 19- We will meet at the O’Keefe Sports Center (Viking Statue) at 2 pm. After warmups and stretching, we will walk to Forest River Park and back. This short walk on level ground is a good introduction to our walking club!
  • April 26- We will meet once again at the Viking Statue at O’Keefe at 12:15 pm. From here we will follow the bike path to the baseball fields, or slightly further depending on time constraints. We will return to O’Keefe for a cool down.
  • May 3- We will meet at Salem State South Campus at 12:15 pm. After a brief warm up, we will walk along the trails in the Forest River Conservation Area.
  • May 10- We will meet at the Viking Statue at O’Keefe at 12:15 pm. We will follow the bike path into downtown Salem. We will discuss Salem’s culture and history while walking and will finish by returning to O’Keefe.

In case of inclement weather, we will walk in one of the gyms in the O'Keefe complex.

Vets and Vikes

Come honor our Salem State University and Salem-area veterans through our Vets and Vikes program. On Sunday, April 22, we will meet at 2 pm in 217 O'Keefe for some pottery and seated yoga.

On Sunday, April 30, we will meet at 2 pm on Alumni Field for our Backyard Games. A cornhole tournament will highlight an afternoon of yard games including but not limited to yard pong, ladderball, and kan jam (inclement weather moves the program into 217 O'Keefe). Refreshments will be provided.
