Learning foundational accessibility principles helps faculty support our students, including understanding why particular practices matter for all students. The Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) team is here to help faculty approach digital accessibility the same way we teach our students: through scaffolding, practice, and building confidence.
Building basic accessibility skills can give faculty more agency: when you know what makes a document accessible, you can build accessibility in from the start and make informed decisions about what needs attention. Tools like accessibility checkers then become useful supports, rather than substitutes for understanding, as we work together to make our teaching materials more accessible.
Attend one or more sessions in this series to build your confidence in creating accessible materials from the start!
Accessibility Basics
In these 60-minute sessions, offered twice this fall, learn accessibility principles about formatting accessible document headers, tables, image descriptions, and more. You’ll leave the session with an understanding of the “CHILL’R T” accessibility guidelines that will enable you to intuitively create accessible digital documents across your work.

Accessibility Demonstrations and Practice Time
These sessions are designed to be flexible, starting with a brief accessibility skill demonstration and ending with practice/work time. The work/practice time can be used according to attendee needs: practicing the skill, getting individual help with an accessibility mentor, or simply working on your course alongside peers. Participants are encouraged to come and go as needed.
