Salem State Theatre Receives 13 Awards from the Kennedy Center

The Salem State Theatre department’s fall 2020 production of The Long Christmas Ride Home by Paula Vogel has been recognized with thirteen national awards from the Kennedy Center. The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival National Committee and the National Office at the Kennedy Center note that: “During these unprecedented times, we celebrate these imaginative and evocative theatre-makers and productions as being at the forefront of a revolution in artistry that ignites conversations of national importance through innovation in process, content, form, design, technology, outreach, and audience engagement.”

The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) hosts eight regional competitions across the United States, annually. This year, the regions each invited 10 shows to be considered for additional recognition at the regional and national level. Salem State’s production of The Long Christmas Ride Home was among those invited shows for the 2020-2021 season. It also garnered the most awards among the schools its region, Region 1.

Salem State's production of The Long Christmas Ride Home received the following awards at the national level:

  • Special Achievement in Overall Production Design
  • Special Achievement in Costume Design - Jane Hillier-Walkowiak
  • Special Achievement in Puppet Design - Jane Hillier-Walkowiak
  • Special Achievement in Scenic Design - Michael M. Harvey
  • Special Achievement in Projection Design or Digital Editing - Michael M. Harvey
  • Special Achievement in Stage Management- Alex “Bovie” Boisvert
  • Special Achievement in Performance - Caleb Dion as Steven
  • Special Achievement in Performance - Madison Gallagher as Claire
  • Special Achievement - Margaret Sweeney as Rebecca
  • Special Achievement in Ensemble Collaboration - Performance and Production
  • Special Achievement - Overall Production
  • Special Achievement in Directing - Peter Sampieri
