Salem State Professor Elected to the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts History Alliance

Professor Margo Shea, assistant professor of history and coordinator of the graduate certificate in public history, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts History Alliance (MHA).

Founded in 2016, the mission of the Massachusetts History Alliance is to support and advocate for all public history organizations and their work in Massachusetts by maximizing connections and cross-fertilization, and supporting skills development in the field of public history in Massachusetts. With over 100 member organizations, the MHA seeks to leverage much-needed resources to support local and public history across the state. The organization also organizes the popular Mass History Conference, held annually at The College of the Holy Cross.

Shea considers membership on the Board of Directors to be both a privilege and a responsibility.

“Local and nonprofit history organizations in the Commonwealth enrich our imaginations, familiarize us with our own communities and others’, and create spaces for difference and otherness in important ways,” Shea said.

“By working together and creating a strong lobbying presence at the state level, the MHA and its member organizations will insure that the past remains an important gateway to the present and the future across Massachusetts,“ she added.
