SALEM, MASS. – Candidates running for the state’s 6th Congressional District seat to succeed Rep. Seth Moulton will gather at Salem State University on Wednesday, June 17 for a candidate forum and debate.
With Moulton challenging Sen. Edward Markey for his seat in this year’s primary election on Sept. 1, Moulton’s seat in the House of Representatives has drawn a slate of candidates, including several Democrats, who are vying to represent the district beginning in 2027.
The June 17 event, hosted by the Frederick E. Berry Institute of Politics at Salem State University, will be open to all candidates in contested primary races who have filed the necessary paperwork to appear on the ballot by the state’s June 2 filing deadline.
The event will feature both a moderated forum and an open debate segment, giving candidates the opportunity to share their perspectives and engage directly with one another on issues important to the district. The evening will be moderated by award-winning broadcast journalist Alison King, a Berry Institute of Politics Spring 2024 Fellow.
“At a time when civic engagement matters more than ever, the Berry Institute of Politics is proud to convene candidates, students, and community members for a substantive and spirited discussion about the future of our district,” said Cynthia Lynch, executive director of the Berry Institute of Politics and assistant vice provost for civic engagement at Salem State. “We are excited to provide voters with an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates seeking to represent them in Congress.”
The forum and debate will be held in Salem State’s Sophia Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, 352 Lafayette St., on Wednesday, June 17 from 6:30 to 8 pm. Doors open at 6 pm, and parking is located in the nearby parking garage on College Drive.
