Salem State, Everett Public Schools Partner to Create Direct Admission Pathway for Students

New program streamlines college admission process for eligible Everett High School seniors
Oct 29, 2026

SALEM, MASS. – Salem State University and Everett Public Schools have established a new Direct Admission Program that will provide eligible Everett High School seniors with a streamlined pathway to admission at the university beginning with the 2026-27 academic year.

The partnership is designed to break down barriers to higher education by streamlining the traditional college application process for eligible Everett students. Once endorsed by their school, students simply complete a short confirmation form from Salem State to be admitted.

Leaders from Salem State and Everett Public Schools recently formalized the partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding establishing the direct admission program. The agreement is intended to expand access to higher education for Everett students while strengthening the educational partnership between the university and school district.

Under the agreement, Everett Public Schools will identify eligible seniors who consent to having their information shared with Salem State and verify that they meet the university’s eligibility criteria. Salem State will then identify students who have qualified for direct admission, with the university notifying Everett of qualified students by November each academic year.

Terms of the MOU

To qualify, students must have a minimum weighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of their junior year and have completed, or be on track to complete, required college-preparatory coursework. Students must also meet Everett Public Schools graduation requirements and receive their high school diploma before enrolling at Salem State.

Eligible students who choose to pursue admission to Salem State will complete an admission application form and submit an official high school transcript before receiving official acceptance.

Salem State will also provide students receiving direct-admission offers with information about financial aid resources and guidance on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for need-based financial aid.

Applicants to Salem State’s nursing and fine arts programs are not automatically eligible for direct admission because those programs have additional admission requirements and will continue to be reviewed through the university’s traditional admission process.
