Resident students housing update due to coronavirus planning measures

Dear Resident Students,

Earlier, you received communication from President Keenan about the cancellation of classes the week of March 23. This message will provide you with more details related to housing during spring break, the week after and beyond. The residence halls are closing on Friday, March 13 at 7 pm and will reopen on March 29 at noon.

We understand that housing situations may have shifted as a result of the COVID-19 preventative measures put in place. As such, you can petition www.salemstate.edu/housingportal for on-campus housing during the week classes have been cancelled (March 23-29). Remember the purpose of canceling classes is to clean the campus and further prepare for possible COVID-19 outbreak. Therefore, only those students who require housing will be approved.

If you have been approved for spring break housing and require housing for the week classes have been canceled (March 23-29), you are required to complete the petition www.salemstate.edu/housingportal as well.

Things to note:

  • Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, the guest policy will change as of March 13 at 7 pm until March 29. No external guests will be permitted in the residence halls. Only Salem State resident students who have been approved for housing during March 13-29 will be permitted and have access to the residence halls as usual. Residents who have not been approved for housing will not be permitted to enter the halls.
  • More information will be sent to those approved for housing regarding hours of operation for dining and other facilities.

All residence halls are scheduled to open March 29 at noon, unless otherwise stated.
