Professor Noel Healy Contributes to Global Assessment on Climate Obstruction

Oct 28, 2025

Salem, MA, October 28, 2025 — Dr. Noel Healy, Professor of Geography and Sustainability at Salem State University and contributing author to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6/WGIII), has co-authored a chapter in the new book Climate Obstruction: A Global Assessment, published by Oxford University Press in partnership with Brown University’s Climate Social Science Network.

The volume brings together nearly one hundred experts from around the world to analyze the complex, organized, and well-funded actors who have actively resisted and undermined efforts to address climate change.

While large-scale scientific assessments like those of the IPCC have advanced public understanding and concern about climate change, Climate Obstruction focuses on the political, industrial, and media forces that continue to block effective action.

The book examines obstruction across sectors including fossil fuels, agriculture, media, PR firms, and far-right political networks, and across scales, from the Global South to United Nations institutions.

The Drilled podcast is featuring multiple interviews with contributing authors in its latest season, exploring key themes and case studies from the book. Episodes can be found at: https://drilled.media/podcasts
