MASCAC Winter Sports Competition Update 2020-2021

November 16, 2020

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

On Friday, November 13 the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced the cancellation of all winter sports competitions. This impacts men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s ice hockey. While this news was not unexpected given the continued upward trend in COVID-19 cases throughout the Commonwealth, it is no less disappointing.

As previously communicated, in an effort to support the health and safety of our community, we have temporarily paused all athletic activities and in-person group fitness classes. During this time our athletic coaches and athletic trainers have been performing admissions-related functions and assisting counseling and health services with on-campus COVID testing. We will review conditions when we return from the Thanksgiving break and will keep the community updated on any changes.

We recognize that this news comes at a time when many were eager to begin more active training. We are eager, too! We remain hopeful, however, that these targeted measures will help us to do our part to reverse the upward trend in state COVID-19 cases and keep our campus community healthy.

Sincerely,

Carla Panzella, PhD
