Jim Lampassi ’81 Receives SSU Volunteer of the Year Award

Sep 30, 2026

Jim Lampassi ’81, of Cypress, Texas, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Salem State University Alumni Association and Foundation, Inc.’s George H. Ellison ’54 Volunteer of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions through dedicated volunteer service to the university.

A proud Salem State graduate, Lampassi earned a bachelor's degree in geography in 1981. He has spent years strengthening the university through leadership roles with the Alumni Association and Foundation and as an alumni trustee on the university’s Board of Trustees. As vice chair of the board, he helps guide institutional priorities while advocating for initiatives that support student success and strengthen the university community.

In addition to his board service, Lampassi serves on the Alumni Association and Foundation scholarship selection committee and the 40 Under 40 selection committee. Through these roles, he helps recognize student achievement, celebrate alumni accomplishments and foster meaningful engagement across the Salem State network.

“Salem State helped shape my personal and professional journey, and volunteering has been a meaningful way to give back,” Lampassi said. “The opportunity to support students, connect with fellow alumni and help advance the university’s mission has been incredibly rewarding.”

Despite living many miles from campus, Lampassi has remained a steadfast advocate for Salem State, contributing his time, expertise and leadership to ensure future generations of Vikings have access to the same opportunities that influenced his own path.

“Jim exemplifies what it means to be an engaged and dedicated volunteer leader,” said Mike Mitchell ’07, director of engagement at Salem State. “His commitment to Salem State extends far beyond his service on boards and committees. He gives his time and expertise because he believes deeply in the university’s mission and in the transformative power of higher education.”
