James Lampassi Elected as Salem State University Alumni Trustee

James J. Lampassi, Jr. has joined Salem State University’s Board of Trustees. A Salem State alumnus, Lampassi was elected to the board by the university’s alumni association and appointed by Governor Charlie Baker.

Lampassi, of Medford, Massachusetts and Danville, California, serves as senior vice president of real estate at Ross Stores, Inc. He leads a team of real estate site selectors and support staff, growing Ross and dd’s Discounts stores across the United States. Lampassi previously held the roles of vice president of real estate and construction for Barnes & Noble, Inc. and vice president of real estate and construction for Petco Animal Supplies Stores, Inc. He is an active member and past-trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).

“I am honored and humbled to serve Salem State University with my election to the Board of Trustees,” said Lampassi. “I have always been proud of my Salem State education and strived to give back to the university. It meant so much to our parents, who were the children of immigrants, that all three of their children graduated from Salem State. Now, I have the honor of representing our more than 71,000 alumni working to bring continued opportunities to current and future Vikings.”

Lampassi has been an active member of the Salem State University Alumni Association Board of Directors since 2018. There, he has served as a member of the Scholarships and Awards Committee as well as the 40 under 40 review committee.

“Trustee Lampassi is a proud alumnus whose Salem State education, talent and skill have taken him far,” said Chair Cherié Butts. “Serving on our board will allow Trustee Lampassi to further the positive impact he has already had on the university through his years of engagement. I look forward to working with him.”

As a Board of Trustees member, Lampassi is vice chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and the Student Success and Advancement Committee. He also serves on the Finance and Facilities and Risk Management and Audit Committees.
