Important announcement about spring events and commencement

Dear campus community,

As the coronavirus threat remains, large gatherings continue to pose a risk to health and safety. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all spring campus activities and postpone Salem State’s commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 14 and May 16, 2020. Our campus will work toward possibly rescheduling commencement activities for a time when it is safer for us to gather.

I believe that our graduating students have earned the opportunity to celebrate this significant and hard-earned academic accomplishment. The graduating class of 2020 will receive further updates as plans come together for rescheduling this year’s celebration.

The idea of a May without caps, gowns, handshakes, hugs, and cheering family members is just sinking in for me – I can only imagine how our proud and eager 2020 graduates must feel. I appreciate the leadership and understanding this class has demonstrated as their final semester has been upended by unprecedented events. Thank you, and I look forward to hopefully celebrating with you in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

John D. Keenan
President
