Dear Salem State Students,
A week from today, we will have the opportunity to vote in one of the most important elections of our time. There is not only a lot at stake for our country, but the statewide ballot questions will have implications throughout Massachusetts for years to come.
In addition to learning about the election in your classes this semester, many of you have taken part in debate watches, panel discussions, and voter registration drives. I hope these resources have helped you consider the many issues before us in this election. I urge all of you to get out and vote on November 8 or sooner, as early voting continues this week.
Voting is a right for which many in U.S. History have fought, and a right that too many around the world lack. Your vote should not be taken lightly. Below are reminders on how and where to vote, as well as how to vote early.
Early Voting
For the first time in Massachusetts history, early voting is open until this Friday, November 4. For early voting dates and times, follow this link to the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s website and select the city or town in which you are registered and plan to vote.
Voting on Election Day, November 8
On November 8, polls are open in most communities from 7 am to 8 pm. If you are registered in one of the six residence halls on campus, you will vote at the Enterprise Center on Central Campus. If this is your first time voting at this location, you will need to show a photo ID and a proof of residency form. Proof of residency forms can be obtained at the front desk of your residence hall this week. On Election Day, there will be a table between Marsh Hall and the Enterprise Center for students to pick up their proof of residency forms.
Many of you are voting in your first ever election, or in your first presidential election. I hope you carry this habit with you in the years ahead, and that you remain civically and politically engaged. You are the future of our country, and your involvement is needed at the ballot box and beyond.
