First Year Seminar Students Crowdfunding for the Salem State Pantry

First-year students in the “Poverty and Charitable Giving” first year seminar, taught by Professor Vanessa Ruget (Politics, Policy and International Relations), are again raising funds to support the Salem State Food Pantry through a crowdfunding campaign they are organizing themselves.

More than 30 percent of college students nationwide face financial challenges that include fears related to not having enough to eat. The Salem State Food Pantry serves as a resource for all students facing challenges related to food insecurity, and also provides non-perishable food items such as toiletries and feminine hygiene products.

Explore how to make a donation or encourage others to donate. Raising funds for the Salem State Food Pantry has been the seminar class project over the last several years.  In the fall of 2021, students smashed their $800 goal by raising nearly $1,800.

Faculty and staff can learn more about first year seminars and the engaging topics first-year students are studying by visiting the First Year Seminar page in Polaris.
