Campus Indoor Mask Mandate Reinstated Regardless of Vaccination Status

Dear Campus Community,

Given the recent increase in COVID-19 cases due to the spread of the delta variant, effective tomorrow (August 5), Salem State is reinstating an indoor mask mandate for all community members (students, employees, guests) regardless of vaccination status. Masks are required in all indoor public spaces, and are recommended in outdoor locations if individuals are not able to socially distance. This mandate will remain in place until further notice.

Throughout the pandemic, the university has been monitoring COVID-19 infection rates and public health guidance. The reinstatement of the mask mandate follows recent CDC guidelines regarding public indoor settings in areas of high transmission, which includes Essex county. We have implemented strategies with an abundance of caution in order to prioritize the health and safety of the community. We will continue to do the same for the 2021- 2022 academic year and appreciate everyone’s attention and flexibility.

For additional information about our health and safety protocols, please visit Salem State’s COVID-19 campus guide frequently and stay tuned for updates by checking your campus email. According to public health experts, the best way to continue to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 and help bring an end to this pandemic is to wear a mask indoors, keep your distance, and most importantly get vaccinated.

Stay healthy!
