Call for CRCA Faculty Liaisons Spring 2024

Advancing Undergraduate Mentored Creative Inquiry at SSU

Welcome to an exciting opportunity to shape the future of student-faculty engagement across our campus. As a Center for Research and Creative Activity (CRCA) Faculty Liaison for Spring 2024, you will be instrumental in advancing undergraduate mentored creative inquiry, a practice that significantly enriches the academic experience.

Building upon last year's successes, the initiative will contribute to the CRCA's efforts to enhance student-faculty engagement in creative inquiry. Last year we achieved considerable progress in identifying key challenges, notably through pinpointing common obstacles such as time and resource constraints, heavy workloads, and insufficient support. Your role this year is vital in not only continuing these efforts but also in refining and expanding upon them.

Objective of the CRCA Liaison

In this role, you will:

  1. Foster Dynamic Faculty Leadership: Join a team of passionate faculty committed to nurturing undergraduate involvement in mentored creative and intellectual activities across all academic areas, including your specialty.

  2. Innovate with Initiatives: Imagine and articulate a series of innovative mentor-focused engagement strategies tailored to your department.

  3. Collaborate for Impact: Work alongside the CRCA Faculty Fellow for Undergraduate Research to integrate ideas, strategize program implementations at various levels, and champion the resources necessary for success.

Overview of Deliverables

Stipend: A stipend of $500 will be awarded upon completion of:

Innovation Report:

  • Part 1: Initiative Exploration: Brainstorm and detail several potential department-specific initiatives to advance the high impact practice of student-faculty engagement in mentored creative inquiry. Describe each idea's concept, structure, potential impact, and anticipated challenges.

  • Part 2: Strategic Funding Use: The CRCA recognizes that faculty and department projects often require more funding than currently available grants provide. We request your department's ideas on effectively using funds in $10,000 increments up to $50,000, specifically for projects that enhance creative inquiry and mentorship. Your feedback will help us reevaluate our grant programs and develop strategies and goals for identifying and pursuing external funding. Additionally, noting the appeal of interdisciplinary and collaborative projects to donors and many granting agencies, the CRCA seeks to facilitate connections between departments with common objectives, fostering a collaborative and innovative partnerships.

Informal Presentation:

  • Format: Deliver a 15-30 minute informal Zoom presentation of your report to CRCA faculty, including a Q&A session, to disseminate your innovative ideas and strategies.

End-of-Year Social Gathering:

  • Purpose: Celebrate the year's accomplishments and foster community among colleagues (exact date to be confirmed).
