Salem State University has initiated 155 first year students into the national first year honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD).
Students initiated into Alpha Lambda Delta had a 3.6 grade point average or higher and also ranked within the top 20% of the class of new students in either the spring or fall semester.
The national ALD organization was established in 1924 and currently inducts over 30,000 students each year from 300+ universities across the nation. The Salem State chapter was founded in 1986 and was renewed at Salem State University in 2012 after a brief hiatus. It draws attention to, and honors, the remarkable success of first year undergraduate students who have achieved distinction in their academic efforts.
While being initiated, members pledged to “assume the responsibility of continuing to maintain standards of service and integrity, to promote high scholarship, and use my education for the benefit of my community”. Members have the opportunity to apply for ALD-specific scholarships, take on leadership roles, attend chapter events, and engage in a community of scholars.
