Salem State University has initiated 130 first year students into the national first year honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD).
Students initiated into Alpha Lambda Delta had a 3.6 grade point average or higher and also ranked within the top 20% of the class of new students either last spring or this past fall.
These new students have already made a mark at Salem State University and continue to contribute to the university with their dedication to success and excellence in the classroom. Initiation is a celebration of their accomplishments as students continue their academic growth and pursuit of knowledge at Salem State University.
The national ALD organization was established in 1924 and currently inducts over 30,000 students each year from 300+ universities across the nation. The Salem State chapter was founded in 1986 and was renewed at Salem State University in 2012. It was intended to draw attention to, and honor, the remarkable success of first year undergraduate students who have achieved distinction in their academic efforts. President John Keenan spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the university’s pride in all the students have accomplished and the impact that they will continue to make at the university, in the commonwealth, and beyond.
While being initiated, members pledged to “assume the responsibility of continuing to maintain its standards of service and integrity, to promote high scholarship, and use my education for the benefit of my community”
