Bring your ClipperCard and begin your day with friends at one of two dining locations. Marsh Dining and the North Campus Café both offer signature brands and a wide variety of fresh food menu selections. If you haven’t registered for a meal plan, you may pay at the door.

Join your new classmates in a Salem State tradition, the class photo! Please wear your orientation t-shirt for the class photo.
Academic Convocation. *This event is mandatory for first-year students.
10-11 am - Twohig Gymnasium, O’Keefe Complex
New first year and transfer students, and the Salem State campus community are invited to attend. Students arriving early will get a bonus t-shirt while supplies last.
Academic Convocation marks the ceremonial start of the university’s 171st academic year. Remarks will be shared by President John Keenan, Provost and Academic Vice-President David Silva, SGA President James Mahoney and Student Trustee Matthew Beckett.

Meet your academic dean, faculty members, and the new students in your program, school, or college! Following Convocation, students will be guided to a campus location to connect and find out about resources. Sessions are organized by college and then by major and will be printed on the Convocation program.

12:30-1:30 pm - North Campus Café or Marsh Dining Hall
(location depends on Deans Welcome assignment)
Get to know your campus community better while eating a delicious lunch! Commuter students and employees, who do not have a meal plan, will be given tickets for a free lunch!

Grit N’ Wit
2-5 pm - Marsh Quad and Fire Pit
Campus life and recreation is partnering with Grit N' Wit to bring you an obstacle course where "brain meets brawn"! Compete in teams of 3 or 4 to conquer the obstacles and puzzles in the best time possible. Shirts and prizes will be given out. Drinks and ice cream are available until supplies last.
No need to pre-register.

Emerging Scholars/ STEP Welcome Event and Carnival
3-5 pm - Veterans Hall, Ellison Campus Center
First-year students involved in STEP and Emerging Scholars Program meet with their assigned success coaches after meeting the rest of their cohort group during the Carnival event.

Non-STEP and Emerging Scholars Students Meeting with Success Coaches
3-4 pm
First-year students in the RISE program and who are assigned a general success coach will meet with their assigned coach during this time to connect, prepare for the first day of classes, and get the year started on a positive foot!
