Tri-Alpha Honor Society Membership Materials Due

Status message

Please note that this event has already occurred.

Students invited to join the national first-generation honor society, Tri-Alpha (Alpha Alpha Alpha) must submit their membership materials (form and lifetime dues) by today, Tuesday January 9, 2023.  Eligible students have received emails and letters to their home address with details.

There are no exceptions to this deadline.  Students who miss the deadline this year will need to wait until next year to see if they are eligible.  Please be aware, the office closes at 5pm so we do not recommend students wait until the last minute to submit materials in case there is a problem.

Questions can be directed to firstgen@salemstate.edu.

To be considered for membership, the following qualifications must be met:

  • Identify as a first-generation college student (neither of your parents have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree
  • Have completed the required number of credits: 30 for undergraduate candidates and 9 for graduate candidates
  • Have earned the minimum required GPA:  3.2 for undergraduate candidates and 3.5 for graduate candidates

Student's first-generation status is determined when a student completes the FAFSA or college application and have answered the optional questions regarding family educational background OR responded to the Navigate poll sent out at the start of the year.  If students did not respond to the optional questions or poll, the university may not be aware of their first-generation status and may not have considered them for membership.  Students in that situation should email firstgen@salemstate.edu.
