SSU Teach-In: Authoritarianism, State Violence and Resistance

Feb 04

This is a multiday event from Feb 04, 2026 - Feb 05, 2026.

Authoritarian regimes and state violence have appeared throughout human history, as has resistance to them. Today in the US we are grappling with these realities. In this teach-in, we will explore histories of authoritarianism, state-sponsored violence, and resistance. This is an open, community-building, and educational opportunity.

Designed for students; open to all.

Over two days, various faculty and librarians will offer 45-minute sessions (mini lectures and trainings) on a range of topics exploring the broad theme of this teach-in: Authoritarianism, State Violence and Resistance. In addition, there will be space for students to gather, talk, and learn how to contact elected officials, gain skills in safety and rights while protesting, share their ideas, and more.

These are topics and skills that faculty and librarians regularly offer to students in their classes. The goal of this teach-in is to make this knowledge available to any student who wants it in response to the current moment. Together, let's learn and draw inspiration from the past and present to create a more just future.

Drop in when you can! Bring a friend! One session, or many! One day or both! No sign-ups needed!
