The Salem Dance Ensemble presents their fall concert, featuring original choreography by Salem State University students and faculty. This concert will also include performances by the Hip Hop Dance Ensemble and a new work by fall choreographer-in-residence 'Megatron', co-founder of one of New England's original underground Bboy dance crews, the Floor Lords.
Admission is free, although there is a suggested donation at the door of $10 to support the Dance Honor Society. Advance reservations are not required.
Alfonzo ‘Megatron' Hunt was born in Mississippi, but raised in Boston, MA. A true underground street style dancer originating back as far as 1978, he is a self-taught artist who co-founded one of New England’s original underground Bboy dance crews, the Floor Lords, in 1981. His experiences have taken him all over the globe where he has performed, showcased, judged and competed against dancers and other underground crews. During the course of his time in the street dance scene, he has educated and trained hundreds of dancers in the moves and history of the true Hip-Hop culture, all the while respecting each dancer's own unique physical ability to incorporate into the fundamentals of the true dance styles of Hip-Hop. He has been recognized by the dance community as an “OG” and has had the pleasure to dance, perform, judge, and compete with other legends, like Poppin Pete, Boogaloo Sam, Mr. Wiggles, Buddha Stretch, Damon Frost, and Jazzy J just to name a few. He is the co-founder of Boston’s popping training program called “Slaughter House,” where dancers of all ages learn and train in the style of poppin, developing their foundation and skills in one of hip hop's earliest forms of street dance. Even though he is a teacher, he considers himself forever a student: learning from his students as they learn from him.
