About

Nearly three decades after Olmstead v. L.C. affirmed the right of people with disabilities to live in their communities, a new federal opinion threatens to weaken how that right is enforced. Join this interprofessional advocacy event to learn what's at stake and how you can help protect community living for people with disabilities.   

By the end of this session, students will be able to:

• Explain the legal and historical significance of Olmstead v. L.C. in establishing the right of people with disabilities to receive services in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs.
• Describe the nature of the current federal opinion or policy threat and its potential impact on the enforcement of community living rights for people with disabilities.
• Identify advocacy strategies and interprofessional roles — including those of occupational therapy and allied health professionals — in protecting and promoting community-based living for people with disabilities.
