Among the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies' archives at the Berry Library are a series of hand-written notebooks containing testimonies of child Holocaust survivors. The story of this collection was a mystery until recently uncovered by Drs. Regina Kazyulina and Chris Mauriello. Archival and genealogical research across multiple repositories enabled them to identify the notebooks’ owner and the identities of the children whose searing testimonies are recorded on their pages. In October 2025, they traveled to Poland to trace the wartime fates of the children. Please join Drs. Kazyulina and Mauriello as they discuss their research journey that took them from Salem to the small shtetls and largely forgotten labor and concentration camps of Poland.
This event is cosponsored by the Center for Research and Creative Activities, Frederick E. Berry Library, and the History department at Salem State University.
This event is free and open to the public. It will take place in person and will also be live-streamed on Zoom. Zoom registration is required.
