LGBTQ Plus You: Supporting Salem State’s LGBTQ+ Communities Through Policy and Practice

Oct 28

In honor of Salem State University Pride Month (celebrated in accordance with LGBTQ+ History Month), Inclusive Excellence's Center for Equity, Education and Belonging (CEEB) invites you to join us on Zoom for LGBTQ Plus You: Supporting Salem State’s LGBTQ+ Communities Through Policy and Practice. This in-depth workshop is designed to strengthen our collective capacity to support LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff by examining how higher education policy, institutional culture, and individual practices intersect to shape the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ communities on campus.

Participants will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of how national, state, and institutional policies influence LGBTQ+ inclusion, belonging, and equity.
  • Knowledge of best practices and research-informed strategies that promote LGBTQ+ student success and employee wellbeing.
  • Practical approaches to applying inclusive practices in classrooms, advising, student services, and workplace settings.
  • Tools for identifying and addressing barriers LGBTQ+ community members may face at here SSU.

This workshop will be co-facilitated by Carlie Pierre (She/Her), Director of Education and Training in Inclusive Excellence, and Lorant Peeler (They/Them).

Lorant is a higher education student affairs professional centered on LGBTQ+ and disabled student support. Prior to their recent completion of their M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Pittsburgh, Lorant worked at the University of Michigan Spectrum Center in both their Events & Partnerships and Education & Trainings teams. Lorant enjoys the work of making systems responsive to human needs through policy change and making complex systems of decision-making, politics, and procedures more transparent and navigable to the people they have the most impact on.

By engaging in this session, participants will be better equipped to foster an affirming and supportive campus climate where LGBTQ+ identities are respected, celebrated, and sustained through both policy and practice. We look forward to you joining us!
