Sean Bjerke discusses the roots of house dance in the 70s and 80s and its evolution over time to the present day. This class is followed by a house dance class with Sean at 3:05 pm in the same room. You can try out some of the moves and styles he will share as part of house dance history!
Sean Bjerke has had the privilege to study under many pioneers of house dance and music culture including Shannon Selby, Sekou Heru and Tony McGregor. After a 15-year career in biotech, Sean is a full-time movement educator and wears several hats as a performer, choreographer, teacher, director, event coordinator and small business owner. He served as an adjunct dance professor at Connecticut College, and taught programming at other institutes such as Boston Conservatory, Boston College and Tufts University. Sean is also an instructor at the JH Kim Taekwondo Institute in Cambridge, and is the school's only student to earn the 5th dan black belt ranking. Sean is the co-artistic director of the award winning Boston dance company, CONcept ARTists, for whom he co-organized the CONcentrate on the ARTistry performance showcase, a celebration of New England performing artists and musicians, from 2016-2019. Sean's other event productions include the Sambanismo Experience Dance Festival (2023-2025), Vaudeville Funk, a celebration of locking and Don Campbell in 2016, and Circles, a performance showcase as part of Unyted Stylz Productions from 2009-2012.
