Research conversation with Ramona Bechauf

The Sonderkommando Photographs – clandestinely made by a group of prisoners at Auschwitz and depicting burning bodies as well as naked women being led to the gas chambers – are some of the earliest images of the Holocaust. They regularly appear in exhibitions, scholarly work, films, and even graphic novels about the Holocaust, but there is much about them that remains unknown. Join us for a research conversation with Ramona Bechauf, who will discuss her project about the Sonderkommando Photographs.

Ramona Bechauf is a PhD candidate at Göttingen University in Germany where she is part of the research group “Exhibiting Knowledge | Knowledge in Exhibitions.” In her work she looks at the Sonderkommando Photographs in museum exhibitions in Poland and Germany focusing on their object biography as well as their display.

This event is free and open to the public. It will take place in person and virtually using HyFlex technology. You can register to participate in this talk remotely. Otherwise, please join us in the Faculty Reading Room (BL209) at the Frederick E. Berry Library at 12 pm on Wednesday, January 31.

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Research and Creative Activities (CRCA).
